New Jersey
Running for: General Assembly District 11
Luanne M. Peterpaul is running for re-election to the New Jersey General Assembly in the 11th Legislative District. A practicing attorney and founding partner at Peterpaul Law in Asbury Park, she currently serves on the Commerce & Economic Development and Aging & Human Services committees. Born in Newark and a longtime Monmouth County resident, she was elected to the Assembly in November 2023 and sworn in on January 9, 2024; the first openly lesbian legislator in New Jersey history.
A former Essex County assistant prosecutor, municipal court judge, and civil‑rights advocate, Peterpaul brings deep legal experience and a passion for justice to her role. She played a pivotal role as chair of the Garden State Equality Action Fund, helping secure anti‑bullying legislation and marriage equality in New Jersey, and continues to champion marginalized communities. With degrees from Duquesne University and Seton Hall Law, she has lectured widely on employment and education law and contributes to hospital advisory boards and children's welfare foundations. As she runs again in November 2025, she emphasizes equality, public safety, and support for older residents and families.
