Currently representing the Ohioans of the 32nd State Senate District, Senator Sean O'Brien is proud to serve the residents of Ashtabula, Trumbull & Geauga counties. Sean is running for re-election in the district. He has been instrumental in recruiting companies and good-paying jobs to the 32nd Senate district including Lordstown Motors, LG Chem, TJX and Petmin Corporation. All told, over 4,000 jobs that will be created right here in the Voltage Valley.

Sean's career has been focused on helping to improve the quality of life for those for the residents of his district. Prior to serving as State Senator, he was the State Representative for the 63rd House District. Sean also spent twelve years as a prosecutor for Trumbull County. As a Trumbull County prosecutor, Sean was the Chief Criminal Prosecutor for the Eastern and Central District Courts, a member of the Domestic Violence and O.V.I. Task Forces, and prosecuted over 100 domestic violence cases.

Hillary O'Connor Mueri

Ohio

Running for: United States Congress, District 14

which includes Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Portage, Summit and Trumbull Counties

A Navy Veteran from Painesville, Ohio, Hillary has never been one to back down from a challenge. She began taking classes at Lake Erie College while she was still in high school, and later decided to study Aviation Engineering at The Ohio State University. The Navy lifted the ban, restricting women from flying in combat, in 1993. Hillary began flight school in 1999 — among one of the first generations of women flight officers. Now, she is ready to serve her country and her community in the United States Congress.

Reproductive rights, campaign finance reform, gun safety legislation.

Betsy Rader

Running for: State Senator, District 18

which includes parts of Geauga, Lake, and Portage Counties

Betsy Rader is a lifelong Buckeye who was born in Coshocton. After her parents got divorced, Betsy’s mom struggled to make ends meet in low-paying jobs — while raising four kids. Growing up poor, Betsy felt like she didn’t have a say in what happened to her family, so after graduating from The Ohio State University and Yale Law School, she became a lawyer to give others a voice. Betsy now owns a small business employment law firm. She has always tried to make a positive difference in her community, and as State Senator Betsy will help the hardworking people in her district.

Support small businesses and locally owned companies; fight for fair elections; fund and support the health care system.

Alicia Reece

Ohio

Running for: Commissioner, Hamilton County

Alicia has spent much of her life in public service, serving Ohioans in many roles. She has served as a City Councilwoman and as the Vice Mayor of Cincinnati, and more recently, she served as an Ohio State Representative. Now, she is running to ensure that Cincinnati is counted as part of Hamilton County, not as a separate entity. Alicia wants to make Hamilton the best county in the United States, and she believes that it is possible.

Phil Robinson

which includes parts of Cuyahoga County

Phil grew up in Northeast Ohio, learning the values of family, hard work and service from his parents. His experience, both in the nonprofit and the private sectors, in addition to his current service as the state representative, have prepared him to continue fighting for his community. As the first African-American to represent his suburban district, Phil is running for re-election to increase investments into Ohio’s schools, to make it easier to start and grow a small business, and to protect Ohioans’ healthcare.

Fanon Rucker

Running for: Prosecuting Attorney, Hamilton County

Judge Fanon Rucker was born and raised in Gary, Indiana as the son of a prosecutor and a social worker. As a child, Fanon experienced crime firsthand: his home was broken into multiple times and his family received death threats. After witnessing the Rodney King riots, Fanon was inspired to go to law school, so after graduating from Hampton University, he went on to the University of Cincinnati College of Law. After 7 years as a prosecutor in Cincinnati, seeking justice for victims of crime, Fanon entered private practice as a civil rights attorney. In 2007, he was appointed as a Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge. And now, Fanon is hoping to bring bold, systemic change to Hamilton County, as the prosecuting attorney.

Priorities:

Keeping communities safe; eliminating cash bail for nonviolent offenses; establish a Conviction Integrity Unit; create or support the creation of a Reentry Court.

Allison Russo

Running for: State Representative, District 24

which includes parts of Columbus, Grove City, Hilliard and Upper Arlington

Allison Russo is a public health policy expert, a working mother, and an advocate for Ohio’s families. As a combat veteran’s wife, she knows what a call to duty looks like. Allison has been working for her community because she knows that the Ohio Statehouse needs to reflect the values of her district. Allison earned her Doctor of Public Health in health policy from the George Washington University and a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. With her knowledge and skills, she will drive science-based policies throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Allison has been married to her husband, Brian, for 17 years, and together they have three young children. And she will fight for the families of her district like she fights for her own family.

Support excellent neighborhood public schools; invest in affordable and accessible healthcare; fund infrastructure and clean energy.

A 5th generation Cincinnatian, a cancer survivor and a mom, Kate Schroder has spent her career lowering healthcare costs and improving health outcomes. Matt Shaughnessy

Matt Shaughnessy is a 15 year district resident, a father of five, an attorney, a member on the Green City Council, and a retired firefighter and paramedic. On the City Council, Matt preserved the right to peaceful enjoyment of property by leading the fight against the Mayor’s plan to put walking trails through resident’s back yards. He drafted and passed common sense legislation requiring greater transparency and accountability of elected officials’ actions. And he helped lead the effort to make the Law Director an elected position. Matt put people first on the City Council, and he will put people first in his position as State Representative — centering the voices of his community.

Alaina is a mom, a business owner, and a tech and digital leader. But above all, she is an American who wants to heal America’s divides. Alaina graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. After fleeing an abusive relationship, she became a single mom and nearly lost everything. In the span of five years, she worked her way up from living off of an $8.00 an hour job to growing her small business to almost $2 million per year in revenue. Alaina has met some tough challenges, and now she is ready to pay it forward by serving her community in Congress.

Monique Smith

Monique Smith has lived on the west side of greater Cleveland with her husband for the past 16 years. They and their children enjoy living in the friendly community of Fairview Park. As an active member of her community, Monique won an at-large city council seat in 2009 and served from 2010 to 2014. Now, she is prepared to serve as the state representative for the 16th district.

Chris Stanley

Chris Stanley is a husband to a talented educator, Morgan, a father to three vivacious daughters and one charming little boy. He graduated from Ohio Dominican University with a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Social Studies Education and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, which he uses on a daily basis in his job as a 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher for Youngstown City Schools.

He is running for the Ohio House with an exciting vision for the 59th District that includes improving public education, attracting new businesses and good-paying jobs, and making sure local governments have the resources needed to provide vital services and keep our families and neighborhoods safe.

Zach Stepp grew up in Sheffield Village, so Northeast Ohio has always been his home. Growing up in a family that struggled to get ahead, Zach learned that his family’s personal and financial struggles did not define him. When his childhood home was sold off in a public auction, Zach learned how to build websites for small businesses so he could have some extra cash as a kid. At 16, he got a job at Five Guys and works nights and weekends — and he got promoted three times while he was still in high school. Through hard work, Zach received a full scholarship to the University of Chicago, traveled the world, and work in national politics and in the federal government. He hopes to bring a fresh perspective to, and make a lasting impact on, his district.

Joan Sweeny

Born and raised in Lakewood, Joan Sweeny has deep roots in Northeast Ohio. Today, she and her husband Mark call Berea home. Joan served in the United States Army for 25 years, deploying to Desert Shield/Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan as well as tours in Germany, Korea, and throughout the United States. And while in the Army Reserves, she served as a police officer in Colorado Springs for four years. Joan spent her career in public service, and now she hopes to bring her experience to the State House as the representative from her community.

Born and raised in Akron, Emilia and her sister grew up learning about the importance of public service. Their parents, Vernon and Barbara Sykes, have dedicated their lives to giving back to their community — both have served as elected officials. Emilia graduated magna cum laude from Kent State University with a B.A. in Psychology. Soon after, she earned her J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Emilia Sykes currently serves as the Ohio House Minority Leader for the Democratic Caucus.

Having previously served on the Akron City Council and in the Ohio House of Representatives, Vernon Sykes has dedicated his life to public service. Casey Weinstein

Casey grew up surrounded by a family that loved public service. His grandfather, father, brother, brother-in-law, and wife Amanda all served, or are serving, in the armed forces. And he served in the Air Force himself. In Dayton, Casey was named as a ‘Top 40 Under 40’ Community Leader. After serving on the Hudson City Council since 2015, he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2018. As the granddaughter and daughter of Navy Veterans, Gretchen grew up knowing she had an obligation to give back to her community. While balancing being a mother of 3 and working as a commercial real estate agent, her commitment to help others never wavered — so she served on Saline, Michigan’s City Council for 6 years before becoming the first female mayor of Saline. After 14 years of working for her community and 14 balanced budgets, Gretchen became the state representative for Washtenaw County. And now, she hopes to do even more good for her community by serving in Congress.

As a father of four and a son of foreign missionaries, Jim Haadsma recognizes the need to give back to his community. In 1994, Jim opened the McCroskey satellite law office in Battle Creek. For years, he specialized in labor relations and workers’ compensation law. More recently, he has applied that experience to help his community. As the State Representative for Michigan’s 62nd District, Jim is running for re-election to ensure that Michiganders are recognized for the dignity of their work and that everyone has access to the education and training they need to succeed.
