Doug Beck was elected as State Representative in November 2016. There, he has served on committees that are important to his district, including Economic Development, Workforce Development, Veterans, Children and Families, and the Special Committee on Employment Security. Born and raised in St. Louis County, Doug graduated from Lindbergh High School in 1983 and attended St. Louis Community College. He and his wife, Marilyn, have been married for 35 years and have two children. As State Senator, Doug will continue to work hard for the working families in his community.

Priorities:

Protect working families; fund early childhood education through grade 12 and beyond; attract quality employers to the state; make health care affordable and accessible for everyone.

Jim is the former Mayor of Ocean Ridge and an active member of many community organizations, including the National Organization for Women and the Rusty Gordon LGBT Democratic caucus. Despite his narrow defeat in the race for State Representative in 2018, Jim is ready to get to work in 2020. He is a 1975 graduate of the University of Rochester and a 1979 graduate of the Loyola University School of Law. Jim has lived in the community of Ocean Ridge, Florida, since 1988.

Sensible gun regulation; equitable, accessible and free public education; renewable energy and clean air; Medicare-for-all healthcare system.

Joanna Cattanach

A lifelong Texan, Joanna Cattanach was born in Fort Worth, went to school in Waco, and became a full-time reporter in Dallas. Joanna is an active and passionate resident of her district: she advocates for the community as an active member of civic groups like the Geneva Heights PTA, North Dallas Chamber of Commerce, and Texas Democratic Women. At three years old, Joanna and her brother were placed into the state’s foster care system. She knows first-hand the challenges faced by the most vulnerable children in the community. Especially as a journalist, Joanna knows that perspectives matter. And as the daughter of a welder with an eighth-grade education and as someone who has faced both success and hardship, Joanna will bring an important perspective to her role as State Representative.

Priorities:

Expand access to high-quality health care; protect women’s reproductive care; invest in public schools and educators; implement commonsense gun safety legislation.

Lindsay Drew

Lindsay Drew grew up in a working, middle-class family. She has been a small business owner, a school board director, and a community leader. As State Representative, Lindsay plans to be a public servant, not a politician. Twelve years ago, her younger sister, Jessica, died in a tragic vehicle accident. Lindsay knew that she had to pay it forward, as her sister would have. She is inspired by her sister’s devotion to public service, so as a self-employed single mom, Lindsay is ready and willing to serve her district.

Priorities:

End the war on public education; ensure health care as a right, not a privilege; raise the minimum wage to $15/hr and make sure all workers are protected by paid sick leave; fight for mental health care coverage.

Fentrice Driskell

Florida

Running for: State Representative, District 63

which includes parts of Hillsborough County

Fentrice Driskell is a Tampa Attorney and a trusted community leader who focuses on real solutions to help the hardworking people of Florida. Her dad is a former dispatcher and her mom is a public school teacher of 35 years. Together, they taught Fentrice the value of hard work. Fentrice grew up attending Florida’s public schools before going on to Harvard and becoming the first African American female student to serve as president of the Undergraduate Council (student government) there. Fentrice also is a graduate of Georgetown Law School and partner at the Carlton Fields law firm. She has been a champion for her community since her election as State Representative in 2018, and she hopes to continue working for the people of Florida.

Strengthen public schools; increase economic opportunity and transportation; protect land and water.

Mary Edly-Allen

Mary Edly-Allen is an educator, a mother of four, and a longtime advocate for children. As a volunteer in her community, Mary co-founded an organization that raises money and identifies new sources of funding to improve schools — without increasing the burden on property owners. Since 2006, Mary has worked in bilingual education in the Grayslake public schools, helping the young children of immigrant families prepare for a lifetime of success. As a state representative in the 51st district, she uses her voice to stand up for students, the environment, and fundamental human rights.

Linda Thompson Gonzalez

Linda has been a resident of Broward County for the last 17 years. She has decades of experience in the Federal government, with a commitment to service and a love for the community. During her time as an Assistant Inspector General for the US State Department, Linda fought to protect taxpayer dollars from fraud and waste. She worked on Capitol Hill with Congressional staff and committees to review and comment on legislation on a daily basis. And in her 12 years with the US Foreign Service in Latin America, she led teams bringing training and educational opportunities for students, professionals and community organizations.

Protections against sea level rise and water pollution; expansion of Medicaid and healthcare access; legislation for commonsense gun safety; investments into public education.

Deb Lavender

A proud champion for her community, Deb Lavender is in her third term as State Representative for her district. She is running for State Senate to continue serving her community. Deb became interested in politics as a teenager, participating in Girls State, where she learned the importance of how government at all levels works for its citizens. After earning her degree in physical therapy from Marquette University, Deb moved to St. Louis and never left. In addition to her work as a physical therapist, Deb is active in her community and she enjoys participating in local organizations.

Chloe Maxmin grew up on her family's farm in Nobleboro and is running as a progressive and Clean Elections candidate to represent Maine Senate District 13. She has worked with people across Maine, New England, and the country for fifteen years to call on our political system to fight for us and with us. She supports Mainers that struggle every day with rising healthcare costs, declining school funding, property taxes, student debt, a changing climate, and more. She has been honored to represent House District 88 as a member of the Maine House of Representatives for the past two years.

Brittney Rodas

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Brittney is the daughter of a father who served in Vietnam and a single mother who was a bus driver. She grew up on food stamps, so she knows what it’s like for families struggling to get by in Pennsylvania. Brittney had to work to put herself through college. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Penn State University. Later, she earned her Master in Public Administration there as well. For the past year, Brittney has been working with the Dauphin County Democratic Committee to help increase voter turnout across the county. She is hoping to bring her skills to the job of State Representative.

Quality public schools regardless of zip code or racial background; preserve Medicaid expansion and the Children’s Health Insurance Program; fight for increased access to voting and campaign finance reform.

George Scott was raised on a family farm in South Central Pennsylvania. Growing up, he learned the value of hard work and service to his local community, his family, and his church. After he graduated from Georgetown University, George enlisted in the US Army and served our country both at home and abroad throughout his 20 year active duty military career. After his retirement, George continued his career in public service with the Central Intelligence Agency as a staff operations officer in the Agency’s Middle East Division. Now, George is hoping to serve his local community as a State Senator.
